Not Just for Reading (Scripture Study)

"A study of the scriptures will help our testimonies and the testimonies of our family members. Our children today are growing up surrounded by voices urging them to abandon that which is right and to pursue, instead, the pleasures of the world. Unless they have a firm foundation in the gospel of Jesus Christ, a testimony of the truth, and a determination to live righteously, they are susceptible to these influences. It is our responsibility to fortify and protect them." President Monson, Three Goals to Guide You. Liahona Nov. 2007.

"Do not 'refuse to be comforted.' Let the revelations comfort you. Let the scriptures refresh you!" Elder Maxwell, "These Are Your Days," Ensign, Oct. 2004, 31
"What a glorious blessing! For when we want to speak to God, we pray. And when we want Him to speak to us, we search the scriptures." Elder Hales, "Holy Scriptures: The Power of God unto Salvation", Ensign, Nov. 2006, 26-2
"Because they expound the doctrine of Christ, the scriptures are accompanied by the Holy Spirit, whose role it is to bear witness of the Father and the Son (see 3 Nephi 11:32). Therefore, being in the scriptures is one way we receive the Holy Ghost. Of course, scripture is given through the Holy Ghost in the first place (see 2 Peter 1:21; D&C 20:26รข€“27; 68:4), and that same Spirit can attest its truth to you and me. Study the scriptures carefully, deliberately. Ponder and pray over them. Scriptures are revelation, and they will bring added revelation." Elder Christoffersen"The Blessing of Scripture," Ensign, May 2010, 35

"Neither the Bible nor the Book of Mormon in and of themselves is sufficient. Both are necessary for us to teach and learn about the full and complete doctrine of Christ. The need for the other does not diminish either one of them. Both the Bible and the Book of Mormon are necessary for our salvation and exaltation." Elder Perry, The Power of Deliverance. April 2012.

“The scriptures, particularly, after one’s prayerful and diligent study, will serve as the safest guide in the discovery of the true church, for the gospel the Savior taught has not changed. It is the same today as it was when He dwelt upon the earth” President Harold B. Lee. (Stand Ye in Holy Places [1974], 315)

"The scriptures were one of the ways God spoke to me—even when I was a child—about my needs, my situation, and my life. They still are. Since our needs change over a lifetime, God has different things to tell us at different times."
"Sometimes I go to the scriptures for doctrine. Sometimes I go to the scriptures for instruction. I go with a question, and the question usually is “What would God have me do?” or “What would He have me feel?” Invariably I find new ideas, thoughts I have never had before, and I receive inspiration and instruction and answers to my questions." President Eyring. A Discussion on Scripture Study. Ensign, July 2005.

"The scriptures enlarge our memory by helping us always to remember the Lord and our relationship to Him and the Father. They remind us of what we knew in our premortal life. And they expand our memory in another sense by teaching us about epochs, people, and events that we did not experience personally" Elder Christofferson. The Blessing of Scripture. April 2010.

"Search the scriptures. They offer one of the best sources we have to keep in touch with the Spirit of the Lord. One of the ways I have gained my sure knowledge that Jesus is the Christ is through my study of the scriptures."Elder Ballard. Keep Your Life in Balance. Liahona, September 2012

"First, study diligently. Every holder of the priesthood should participate in daily scripture study. Crash courses are not nearly so effective as the day-to-day reading and application of the scriptures in our lives. Become acquainted with the lessons the scriptures teach. Learn the background and setting of the Master’s parables and the prophets’ admonitions. Study them as though they were speaking to you, for such is the truth." President Monson. Be Your Best Self. April 2009.
